I'm going to talk to you today about a new window called the Library. This new window is designed to help you organize and view your files by categories and groups. And most of us have a favorite place to put our sequel and various related project files. When I'm working on a project, I tend to use a project manager group and assign my current files used for this.
From my larger files collection, I use my disk. And I have quite a few folders and each of these have all kinds of sequel and different related scripts in them. Now, the Library can be opened from the Tools menu or from the icon up here. And as I open files into the application, there is a default setting that will automatically add your files to the library.
Now, I can go ahead and add more of my own files by clicking on Add to Library. Let's go to some of the areas that I like to use, some of my favorite files. Let's say add this collection.
When I add them, this window will pop up. And it allows me to annotate these files as a group of files. It automatically added a tag that was from the directory it was in. But I can put this in here too. Maybe I want to say Oracle. And I can put this as my faves file. And it'll add this to the library.
Maybe I want to go to another directory. Let's see, what else would I like to add? Maybe something from my sequel server collection. And we'll just take a various set of files from here.
And let's say sequel server. I'll use that as a topic too. So you have tags and topics. Now, each of these are used so that you can group and slice and dice them a different way. Now once you've added the files, you still can continue to annotate them individually. Let's say this file is for sequel server address access. And this one here is for adventure works. That's kind of obvious from the title.
But I can give individual unique descriptions to each of my files. Now, you can also change the view of what you see in the library by looking at this dropdown. This would give you all of the files. But as you could see, there's a recently added. So whatever was my last set of files that were added, I can go back and easily annotate them. Or I can also see what was most recently accessed or used. Now to search my finals, I can do a couple of things. They're grouped by file type by default. But I could group them perhaps a different way. Maybe I want to use the connection type. When they're added by the application and pointing to a current connection that will give the Oracle connection type here. Or I could group them by the topic. Or I can just look at all of my files together.
I also can then do a search, which is pretty quick. It's nice. And from there, use any of the actions of open, publish, or remove. Or on an automation script, you can actually execute it. And here it's asking me for the current connection that I want to use.
So the Library window is really meant to be a quick and easy way to access all of your files. And once you get used to using it, I think you'll really welcome it and make it an integral part of your workflow.
