Hello, and welcome to this video tutorial on how to upgrade from Foglight for Virtualization 8.8.5 to Foglight Evolve 9.0 on a Windows 2016 server. We downloaded the Foglight Evolve 9.0 installer zip file from the Quest support site to the D drive of the windows 2016 server on which we will upgrade Foglight. We extracted the zip file and opened the installers folder.
Right click the exe file, and click Run as administrator. That starts the installation. Since this extraction will take a few moments, we'll pause the video. We're almost at 100% extraction, so we've restarted the video. And we're now placing the wizard. Read the introduction, and then click Next to continue.
We then get a license agreement. Accept it, and then click Next. We've chosen custom installs, so that we can select the D drive of this Windows 2016 server, where the already existing Foglight for Virtualization installation resides. So we will click Next to continue.
We'll accept the D drive, which is where the Foglight for Virtualization installation exists. And we'll click Next. Because we've chosen the same folder, where Foglight Virtualization already exists, we're offered an upgrade option. Click upgrade, and click Next.
We review the installation parameters and then click Install. This installation will take several minutes, so we'll pause the video and return when we're near 100%. Hi, we've restarted the video. We see that our Foglight database needs to be running, so that we can do the upgrade. It is running, and we will click Next.
We'll, again, pause the video as it's going to start up progress and come back when we're near 100%. We're near 100%, so we've restarted the video. Next, we log in with the ID Foglight and password Foglight. We'll agree to the core portal integration.
We see what's new in Foglight 5.9.5. If we click information, the letter I in the upper right hand corner and click about, you see it still says, however, Foglight for Virtualization enterprise addition 8.9.0. And we see in the top banner, it also says Foglight for Virtualization enterprise addition.
These won't change until you apply Foglight Evolve host licenses, so switch to expert view. Go to Administration, licenses. I still have my older Foglight for Virtualization licenses. I do have a Foglight Evolve core license. That is the license that says will it phone home or not in terms of automatic reporting of usage back to Quest.
So every Foglight Evolve server will have a core license, so let's install a Foglight Evolve license. I'm installing an operate license. On any Foglight Management Server, you can install either a monitor license or an operating license.
We've installed the Foglight Evolve operate license. But when we click I for information and about, it says 9.0. It still says Foglight for Virtualization Enterprise Edition, and the banner still says Foglight for Virtualization Enterprise Edition. Clearing cache should give us an updated screen.
I'm using a Firefox browser. I'll go to options, privacy and security, and clear history. I'm going to close the browser entirely, and we see, also, we still have one screen that was left. So we click Done to complete that. That does complete the installation. Let's go in.
You're offered a tutorial that you can go through. We'll skip that for now. And you can see by completing the installation, I now have a Foglight Evolve banner. And when I click I for information about, it says Foglight Evolve 9.0.
So the combination of clearing cache, and completing the installation, and installing one type of Foglight Evolve hosts license brought us the new banner and the new information screen showing us Foglight Evolve 9.0. That concludes this video. Thank you for watching.
