How to use the Sync and Convert Wizard in Toad Data Modeler

Welcome to the last video of the Toad Data Modeler series. My name is Matthew Phan, Systems Consultant with Dell Software. In this session, I'll cover the syncing convert wizard to Toad Data Modeler. Now, using the powerful sync and convert features in Toad Data Modeler, I can compare the changes I made to another model or compare it back to the live database. After the comparison, I can generate an ALTER script which I can run against my live database to make it look just like my model. I can also use the sync and convert wizard to compare models and generate a report or merge models. And I can also use it to convert one model to another type of database system, like Oracle or SQL Server. Let's compare the changes I've made to the live database. On one side of the comparison, I'll choose the version 1.1. Select the connection to the reverse engineering database. Then select the items in the database that you wish to compare. The wizard presents you with a lot of different options. I'll go ahead and leave the default settings for now. You'll be presented with a summary showing you the differences between the live database and the database model. On the last screen, you'll be able to save an ALTER script. I'll enable the option view file after generation to show you what it looks like. So I can take this ALTER script and run this on my database to synchronize it with a new version 1.1. As I've demonstrated, with Toad Data Modeler, you'll increase your productivity when designing, modifying and delivering your database and applications. It'll be easier to work with legacy data structures, inherited applications, and producing new documentation for them. And finally, you'll be able to cut your overall IT costs.
