Welcome to Quest Workspace Desktop Authority. My name is Wendell Seaton, and I'm a senior technical support engineer with Quest Software. In this video, I'll show you how to configure the Application Launcher element. So let's get started.
We'll go ahead and log into Desktop Authority, and we'll select the Client Configuration. And we'll target the user. And we'll go ahead and right click and create a new profile. We will enter a name here. Then we'll expand this profile, and we'll select the Application Launcher object.
OK, and to the right, we'll go ahead and click Add, Add a New Element. In this case, we're going to target Notepad. We're going to launch Notepad. So we'll enter the path for Notepad here. And we also want to launch a text file. So we'll go ahead and enter that and select Run as Administrator. And we want to go ahead and select Asynchronous Launch as well.
Now, this section here is optional, but we'll go ahead and enter it anyway. Just gives a pop-up to the user to let the user know what's going on. We'll enter a title and some text. And we' go ahead and leave this value to zero. OK, the cycle schedule. We also leave that at the default.
And we'll add some Validation Logic here. And we want to target desktop machine, so we'll go ahead and uncheck the others. We also want to target XP, so we'll go ahead and remove these as well. And at log on is what we really want. And we just go ahead and select that as well. And we'll go ahead and leave VMs here, since we're running on a VM. And of course, we'll just leave this as it is here and move to the next section.
All right, so we want to add some Validation Logic rules. So let's go ahead and click Add. And in this case, what I want to do is target machines in a specific OU. In this case, we want to target the Miami OU. So we'll go ahead and enter it here. And I'm going to also target the sub-OUs as well. And we'll confirm.
OK we'll go ahead and also add some notes. And this is also optional, but I'll just do this for demonstration purposes. We'll enter some text, and go ahead and save that. All right, we'll scroll. And at this point, we're going to save and replicate. Click Yes. And in the interest of time, we're going to go ahead and speed this process up.
Now what we're going to do is we're going to go to the user's workstation and just see what the process looks like. So we'll go ahead and log into this user's workstation. And we should see a pop-up shortly. And there we go, the pop-up alerting the user to what we're going to do.
And there you go. Notepad is launched, and the file is also open. And this concludes our demonstration for today. To learn more about Desktop Authority, please visit quest.com/desktop-authority. For more video tutorials, visit quest.com/support. Thank you.
