how do i add a cifs share as the "target Client"
how do i add a cifs share as the "target Client"
Hi spassler
what kind of backup are we talking here?
for example, you can restore a file system backup (1 file or many files) to another server, for instance the restore you want to do you can do it to the server that has the CIFS shares but I will recommend to install netvault client on that server that you want to restore and then select it as target client.
Thomas, it would just me a file system backup to a CIFS share. but the CIFS share cant have a client installed on it as it uses NDMP. its a EMC vNXE 3200 that holds the CIFS shares. i dont see a way to restore to that, is it possible?
Hi spassler
Just go to Create Restore Job -> select the file system backup you want to restore -> select the file you want to restore and highlight it and select the option Rename -> in that window in the relocate field put \\ipaddress\cifs_share and select next (rename field can stay empty)
But the CIFS share needs to have permission for everyone to read/write in order to write the file into the share.
I don't see that as an option... i see a "edit plugin options" on the screen where i pick the file or folder i want to restore, but that's it. then after i select the file i want and hit next i seee where i can pick my "Target Client" but its only machines with clients on them not my CIFS Shares....
I will assume you are running NetVault 12.x version that doesn't have the Rename button, so after check the file you want please click above the the file in mention and it will pop up "rename" after selecting rename you will have a pop up window with the rename and relocate field and just follow the steps above, for the target client just leave the default.

Yes, I am. Gotcha. I see it now. I have to actually click the name of the file and or folder i want to restore in order to "relocate" it. Thanks a bunch Tomas.
